About PNR Society

: UNDER ONE UMBRELLA :

This is a unique group of institutes which is rendering outstanding services to more than 1500 disabled beneficiaries every day. This organization had come into being after a long struggle and sustained efforts put in by the devoted volunteers. The activities which had its beginning from a corner of dusty street of Bhavnagar, has now grown in to a very big banian tree, which is providing various services through its different institutes under one umbrella. 

 

 

 

 


OBJECTIVE :

The objective of this Organization is to provide guidance related to disabilities responsible for genetic disorder, to carry out the survey, Prevention, Surgical intervention (where necessary), Distribution of aids and appliances, Treatment, Education (Integrated and Special), Vocational training so as to enabling them to be employed in gainful economic and social activities. This is also a part of the recommendation made by the UNICEF.  


PROBLEM

  • Of total population of the country, 10% are disabled (WHO).
  • Of the total world population of the disabled, 60% are in India.
  • The number of disabled is added in lacs every year.
  • More than 75% population of the disabled live in rural area where basic amenities are not available.
  • Due to indifference for giving special education to the disabled, only 1% of the disabled people get an opportunity for education and training, and the girls' participation is minimal.
  • As per the World Health Organization's report, 70% of the disabled can be treated and cured through treatment, surgery and Aids and appliances but there is absence of necessary infrastructure.
  • The country would require 3,65,000 experts and teachers in the coming 5 years in the field of disability as against there are less than 30,000 experts and teachers. 

MOTIVE:

Keeping in view that a voluntary organization can play a pivotal role in reaching out to the poor, illiterate, uneducated and disabled beneficiaries who are living in rural area, a number of Community based activities are undertaken by this organization since 1960 'Under One Umbrella', which has yielded encouraging results. Accordingly, these institutes are showing the way out through public awareness and motivation.
